Along the 310-km long border between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) and Albania, which makes up 11 percent of the entire length of the Yugoslav border with its neighbors, in the January-April 1998 period the border patrols of the Yugoslav Army prevented 157 attempts of illegal crossings - 12 from FRY and 145 from the Republic of Albania. In the same period, according to Yugoslav Army data, committed were 19 serious violations of the FRY state border, representing the most serious violation of the sovereignty and integrity of FRY. All border violations and incidents were carried out by armed persons, either individuals or groups coming from the Republic of Albania.
